This portrait of eccentric singer and musician Sébastien Tellier, a prominent French house artist and writer of sublime airline-themed songs, is told by his musician friends and accompanied by archive images. Seen as a dandy and a guru, Sébastien Tellier has constantly reinvented himself in a bid to hit a sweet spot between popularity and musical purity.

Sébastien Tellier : Many Lives

From his first album composed in a maid's room to his performance at Eurovision, Sébastien Tellier never ceased to suprise, divert, bother, all without getting lost along the way. The constantly renewed authenticity of his musical universe is still one of the strongest in today's contemporary pop scene. Throughout testimonies and extracts from Quentin Dupieux's Nonfilm, appears a paradoxical and wild personality, whose shortcomings are as touching as his relentless quest for popular success and artistical avant-garde.

Filmed all over the world and brought to life by archive images, interviews with close family and friends, as well as studio sessions, MANY LIVES showcases the many sides of an extraordinary songwriter who sees each album as an opportunity to start from scratch – a new theme, a new producer and a new studio.

François Valenza

After his studies at the Cergy National Art School, François Valenza wins the villa Médicis' program "Hors les murs". He moves to New York, and then directs A THOUSAND MINDS, a 30-minute long essay- documentary, poetic portrait of author-composer Sébastien Tellier.

I’ve been working on this film for nearly eight years now. Between countless hours of raw footage from personal archives, the interviews that didn’t make the cut and all the ideas that have yet to be explored, I have enough material to make multiple films about Sébastien.
